Description

ND Filter for Drone Camera

The ND filter for drone camera is a multifunctional optical filter designed for aerial photography, drone video systems, and camera lenses used in bright outdoor environments. By reducing the amount of light entering the camera without significantly changing color reproduction, the filter helps maintain proper exposure and image quality when shooting under strong sunlight.

This optical filter combines an ND filter, anti-reflective (AR) coated optical window, and polarizing film into a bonded assembly. The integrated design provides light reduction, reflection control, polarization, and environmental protection in a compact optical component suitable for drone camera systems.

Features of the ND Filter for Drone Camera

  • Combines an ND filter, AR optical window, and polarizing film in one optical assembly
  • Reduces incoming light while maintaining stable color and contrast
  • AR coating reduces surface reflections and glare
  • Average reflectance can reach Ravg ≤0.65% at 400–700nm
  • Hydrophobic and waterproof coating helps protect the optical surface
  • Surface quality of 40-20 for demanding imaging applications
  • Parallelism less than 30 arcseconds
  • Protective or laser-cut chamfer available according to application requirements
  • Custom transmittance areas available according to the selected ND specification
  • Suitable for customized drone camera and aerial imaging systems

Optical Performance for Aerial Imaging

A drone camera operates in changing outdoor lighting conditions, from bright direct sunlight to high-contrast scenes. Excessive light entering the camera can make it difficult to maintain proper exposure and can limit the camera’s ability to capture smooth and detailed images.

The ND filter for drone camera reduces optical transmission to help the camera operate within an appropriate exposure range. Different ND levels provide different amounts of light reduction, allowing optical engineers and camera designers to select a suitable filter according to the operating environment.

The integrated AR coating also helps reduce unwanted surface reflections. With Ravg ≤0.65% at 400–700nm, the optical window is designed to maintain high image clarity while minimizing reflection-related interference.

The polarizing film provides additional control of polarized light and can help reduce unwanted reflections in outdoor scenes. This makes the bonded optical assembly suitable for aerial photography, outdoor inspection, mapping, and professional drone video applications.

ND Filter Options from ND2 to ND1000

Jiujon Optics provides multiple ND levels for different lighting conditions and exposure requirements.

These different transmission levels allow the filter to be selected according to camera sensitivity, aperture, shutter speed, and ambient lighting conditions.

Materials and Bonded Optical Construction

The filter assembly uses D263T glass, polymer polarized film, and an ND filter. The optical components are bonded with Norland 61 to provide stable assembly performance.

The optical surface can receive AR coating, waterproof coating, and other treatments according to the application requirements. Black screen printing is also available for controlling stray light and improving the appearance and integration of the optical assembly.

The transmittance area can be customized according to the ND filter specification and the optical design of the drone camera system. Jiujon Optics can also provide customized dimensions, thicknesses, coating requirements, and mechanical configurations for OEM applications.

Applications of ND Filters for Drone Cameras

The ND filter for drone camera can be used in a variety of aerial and outdoor imaging applications, including:

  • Drone aerial photography
  • Professional drone video and filmmaking
  • Outdoor photography and videography
  • Aerial surveying and mapping
  • High-contrast outdoor imaging
  • Industrial drone inspection
  • Environmental monitoring
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle camera systems
  • Customized camera modules for aerial imaging

For systems operating under strong or changing illumination, selecting the correct ND level can help maintain consistent exposure and improve the usability of captured images and video.

Why Choose a Custom ND Filter for Drone Camera?

A drone camera often has strict requirements for optical size, weight, transmission, surface quality, coating performance, and environmental durability. A standard photographic filter may not meet the dimensional and optical requirements of an integrated camera module.

A customized ND filter for drone camera can be designed around the optical path and mechanical structure of the camera system. Parameters such as ND level, transmittance, glass material, optical coating, clear aperture, thickness, edge treatment, and bonded structure can be adjusted according to the project requirements.

Jiujon Optics provides precision optical filters and bonded optical assemblies for OEM and industrial applications. Our manufacturing capabilities include optical processing, coating, bonding, black screen printing, laser cutting, and optical inspection.

For customized ND filters, customers can provide the required ND level, dimensions, optical performance, coating specifications, and application conditions. Our engineering team can then evaluate the optical structure and manufacturing requirements for the project.
