This article will analysis the advantage and disadvantage of the three types of IR windows.
Type1. Black Glass + Magnetron Sputtering Coating
It is expensive and not environmentally friendly, but it can achieve simultaneous reflection on both the left and right sides of the light source band, and only transmits the light source band.

Transmittance of the Colored Glass
The right side is coated with a short-wave pass to reflect the right side band of the light source.
Type2. Optical Plastic + IR ink screen printed
Low reliability and low transmittance in the infrared band.
Type3. Transparent Glass + Magnetron Sputtering Coating
It has high reliability, high transmittance in the infrared band and can achieve light filter function.
It can only achieve long-wave pass and reflection on the left side of the light source, and the right side cannot be controlled.
The black IR window achieved by magnetron sputtering coating is essentially an optical filter, and the black color on the surface is achieved by the color of the film layer-SIH material.
Process summary
ToF module window on the sweeping robot
The requirements are relatively low and the cost is not high: the light-transmitting part of the window is coated with a dichroic film, and the rest is silk-screened with black ink.
LiDAR Window
The performance and appearance are high: the surface is coated with a narrow-band spectroscopic film to absorb visible light and transmit infrared light first, and then an ITO film is added to achieve the effect of window heating, snow melting and defogging. The surface can also be coated with a hydrophilic film to achieve an anti-fog effect.
The rotating laser radar is a plastic hot-pressed window. Now glass companies such as Lens Technology and Vitalink also provide hot-pressing processes, which can press free-form surfaces, one concave and one convex cylindrical spherical surface.
DMS Window
Focus on appearance effects: the surface is coated with a black spectroscopic film to absorb visible light and transmit infrared light, and then coated with an anti-fingerprint film to maintain a clean surface, and the back is affixed with adhesive for fixing to structural parts.
